Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist
Stora Eva Highback Chair
DESCRIPTION
An iconic "Stora Eva" (Large Eva) highback chair designed by Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist in 1958 for Nordiska Kompaniet (NK). As the centerpiece of her celebrated "Paradiset" (Paradise) collection, the Eva represents a rejection of the sharp geometric lines common in the 1950s, favoring instead a philosophy she termed "Human Modernism."
The chair features a monumental, enveloping backrest with deep button tufting and graceful, organic curves that mimic the human form. The generous, sculptural body floats atop slender, tapered beech legs, creating a silhouette that is both substantial and visually weightless. Newly upholstered in dense cream sheepskin, emphasizing the chair's soft, feminine geometry.
