Unknown Cabinetmaker
Swedish Modern Highback Lounge Chair
ARCHIVE / ITEM SOLD
DESCRIPTION
A monumental high-back lounge chair produced by a Swedish cabinetmaker during the 1950s. This piece is a striking example of the transition from traditional wingback forms to the organic sculpturalism of the mid-century era.
The design is anchored by its dramatic, high backrest featuring deep button tufting, creating a sense of enclosure and privacy. The frame is crafted from stained beech, highlighted by beautifully sculpted armrests that curve organically to fit the hand. Newly upholstered in dense cream sheepskin, the wild texture of the fur softens the imposing silhouette, creating a sophisticated contrast with the dark, architectural lines of the wood.
